Best in Gävleborg in DN's Nutidsorientering

IESG won the award for best school in Gävleborg in the annual DN-nutidsorienteering event, but that was largely overshadowed by Sara Lindberg from 9C winning the award for best student in Gävleborg. Sara's impressive achievement led to a series of fantastic experiences over this past weekend. To begin with, on Friday, December 9th, Sara travelled to Stockholm where she was greeted by IES CEO Mr Fyles, and Vice CEO Mr Stenquist to be congratulated for her outstanding performance. On Saturday, December 10th, Sara met with Minister of Education Jan Björklund, and was able to ask him questions about education in Sweden. From there she travelled to the royal castle in Stockholm to meet Queen Silvia, who presented Sara with a broach as a gift, in addition to posing for a photo. A tour of the Nobel museum followed, where the curator of the museum gave a history of past winners, a private tour, and a description of the accomplishments of this year's recipients. Finally, it was on to the Nobel Prize ceremony itself, where Sara was seated in the balcony and got to be a witness to the world's most famous prize ceremony. According to Sara her favorite parts of the action packed weekend were "being a part of the applause for Tomas Tranströmer (the winner for literature this year) was a fantastic experience", and she also remarked that "getting an extra handshake from Mr Fyles was really fun."

According to her SO teacher Mr Backström "Sara is like a dictionary; she has a great basic knowledge in the SO-subject. Furthermore, she has an understanding of the structure around the world and is able to both compare and to see similarities and differences in all the four subjects."

A warm congratulation is in order for Sara Lindberg, as well as the entire SO department here at IESG.
